The Sophie Top

I ADORE this fabric.  Like I love it so much that I bought 2 yards of it every time I went to the store until it was GONE.  It is Sophie for Moda.

I am so drawn to the beautiful vintage feel of the colors and the flowers.  It reminds me of those awesome vintage sheets people always find.  (I have never found beautiful vintage sheets myself, but it seems like other people always seem to find them.)

For the top I used a pattern that I got from Whimsy Couture when I placed 2nd at Crafting with the Stars.  I basically followed the pattern, but I added an extra elastic gather around the bust line.  Emma is so skinny I think it really helped give it a nice shape for her. (BTW I think Whimsy Couture is having a sale right now)

It is a really great pattern.  Perfect for beginner who don't really know what they are doing or if you are looking for a nice peasant style dress or shirt pattern.

I think the extra shirring around the bust line also makes the shape a little more gown up looking.  I want to make a maxi dress just like this for me.   I can dress like my 8 year old if I want to, right?  :)

Can you believe I took these picture across the street from my house?

She looks so old.  Where did my baby girl go?

  1. GORGEOUS!!! I am in love with that fabric! SO pretty! Your daughter is gorgeous asw well! Great shots :)

  2. Laura,

You are so right with that fabric - IT IS AWESOME!!! I never find fabric this good looking when I shop; kinda like you and the sheets. :(
When did Emma loose her teeth?!? I love the blue in her eyes. I also agree on the growing too fast thing. If it was up to me my daughter would still be two.

  3. She is beautiful! And I love the top on her. That extra elastic was genius, it wouldn't be nearly so cute without it.

  4. The top is darling! That little girl lights up and makes me smile.

  5. That fabric is beautiful and I love the top! The sleeves are definitely my favorite part. Your little girl is gorgeous!

  6. Super cute! I love the colors! I'd love for you to link up to Crafty Cousins.
