Emma's Cupcakes and Kitty Cats Party - The Treats

Finally!!  Emma's party low down.

I really like making cupcakes, so I was pretty happy when Emma chose the cupcakes part of her cupcakes and kitty cats party.   I know kitty cats and cupcakes don't traditionally go together, but Emma likes them and they are both cute so it seems like a great combo.

The first cupcakes Emma chose were Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.  These are my personal favorite, although I actually would prefer to just eat the faux cookie dough with the frosting on it.  Oh my goodness guys.  This frosting is SO GOOD.  You will want to just eat it with a spoon.  Even if you don't like frosting as long as you like cookie dough you will love this.

The Cake:
One box vanilla cake mix
4 eggs
1 cup oil
1 cup sour cream
1 large box of vanilla pudding
1/2 cup water
1 cup mini chocolate chips
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup brown sugar

Just mix it all up and bake in cupcake liners. Bake at 325.  Bake time depends on the size of your cupcake liners.  For minis think around 12 mins, normal size is around 20 mins and larger liners are closer to 30 mins.

The faux Cookie Dough:
This recipe makes a lot of dough, but I have it this way because it uses a whole can of sweeten condensed milk.

1/2 cup of soft butter
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 1/4 cups of flour
14 oz sweeten condensed milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup mini chocolate chips

Beat the butter, mix in the sugar, milk, and vanilla.  Then slowly add in flour.  Then mix in the chocolate chips.

You can use a cupcake corer or something, but I just press a little ball of dough in the middle without coring it.

The Frosting:
2 cups shortening
1 cup butter
6 cups (most 2 lb. bag) powder sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup flour
2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp butter flavor
About 1/4 cup of milk (it depends on texture)
1/2 tsp salt

Mix it all together and lick the beater.  :)

Emma also decided she wanted pink cupcakes.  (Didn't you know pink is a flavor?)

Just a quick note.  Emma really wanted two kinds of cupcakes and a batch of cupcakes makes about 26-28 cupcakes.  I really didn't want 52-56 cupcakes around, when 25 would be plenty, so I use one box of cake mix and separated them just before adding the things that would make them different.

Pink Cupcakes

The Cake:
One box vanilla cake mix
4 eggs
1 cup oil
1 cup sour cream
1 large box of vanilla pudding
1/2 cup water
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp almond extract (I always use imitation almond so I don't have to worry about people with nut allergies.)

Mix it all up and bake at 325.

The Frosting:
2 cups shortening
1 cup butter
1 2lbs bag powder sugar
1 tsp butter flavor
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp almond extract
milk

Mix it all up.  Add milk to get the desired consistency.

Lets talk for a moment, about how I made these cupcakes pretty.

First lets talk liners.  These bad boys are TRIPLE papered.  I know that is crazy talk, but they sure do look pretty.  First I baked them in those kinda ruffly looking liners from wilton.  I have never like using them before, because they didn't fit on my normal cupcake/muffin pan and then when I used them as a second liner the poor little cupcake just swam in their bigness.
This time I bought a wilton muffin pan that fit the bigger liners (it fits the regular liners too).  I baked the cupcake in the large ruffle liners, then added another large ruffle liner and then added a the regular sized cupcake print liner.  The second two liners are purely decorative.

Them I made the super cute cupcake pix.

 These were SO easy.

You will need a 2 inch scalloped circle punch, or you can use your silhouette.  My silhouette was already otherwise engaged. (I will show you that another day.) A pack of cut stickers, toothpicks, hot gule, and cardstock. (I used pearlized white linen cardstock.

Punch out 2 times your desired number to cupcake toppers from your card stock.

Then hot glue your tooth pick on the back... do you see where I am going with this?  Do I even need to tell you what to do next?
Let the hot glue cool a little  (this makes the tooth pick stay nice and straight) then add more hot glue and stick another circle to the back so that both sides look pretty and then put a sticker on it.  I lined up the scallops in the circles when I was sticking them together.

Super Easy.  It is like write the directions for pop tarts.

I also made fun giant cookie lolly pops and wouldn't you know it my camera died just after I took this picture and by the time I got the new battery in the camera a plague of  devouring locus (kids) attacked and the table no longer looked like this or had cute cookies on it.

At least the cookies were enjoyed.  These cookies are better known as Play Dough Cookies.  They are a favorite around our house.

Since Emma's party was at Get Air,
I knew drinks were going to be very important.  Kids can work up quite the thirst jumping that much.

I wrapped water bottles to fit the kitty cats cupcakes theme and I put everybody's name on their bottle.  It makes keeping track of who's is who's a lot easier.  And it is cute.  I also had one of those glass spouty container thingys with a  juice/diet 7up mix, so they had plenty to drink.

I also got them some cute stripey straws.  Don't you love those stripey straws.

Well I think that coves it for the treats.  We also had veggies and pizza, but that's not really all the fun to talk about.
