I am so stinking excited about redoing my house for the Forth of July. The many many projects it will take to accomplished my Americana makeover are all coming along well. Today I finished this little chair. I love the blue color. I really wanted to keep chair Americana inspired, but not go so patriotic that it wouldn't be able to use it year round.
I picked this beauty up for $3 at a garage sale.
Oh look under the dirty old fabric there was even more older, uglier, dirtier fabric. NICE!
I started out by taking the seat off and spray painting it blue, then once it was dry, I sanded it by hand with a very fine sand paper.
While the paint dried I recovered the seat. I added some extra foam I am had laying around to give the cushion a little more presence. Then I took a 9X6 canvas drop cloth I picked up for about $9 and used a sharpie to draw the numbers on it. I considered writing "sit on me" or something like that, but then I decided to just go with something classic like a couple of numbers. I know something like "76" would have been more Americana, but 2003 was the year I was married to a when with something that had a little more personal meaning.
Ain't she a cutie.
Almost as cute as my little patriotic helper.

Awesome job... the chair looks amazing... 2003 was the year you were married and/or reminder that it only cost 3$
