Halloween Costume Week - Day 3 - Vintage Strawberry Shortcake

No one is sweeter than Strawberry Shortcake.  Right?

I think this was Emma's favorite costume.  She actually wore it two years in a row.  She would probably wear it again this year, but it really is just too small.

So I have a confession to make....  Are you ready for this... you may want to sit first...its bad.... I can't read sewing patterns.  I know crazy right?  I am a self taught sew-er and every time I think to myself that I want to try to make something using a pattern I cut it out, start reading it, and then just sew it together the way I see it in my mind.  So that is my explanation for this costume.
I used a dress similar in size to the one I wanted to make to make pattern pieces.  I also made up how to make the apron and hat.  I could explain how even if I wanted to, and I do want to.  But I know it was easy so I am sure you can do it.   I found the Strawberry Shortcake iron ons on ebay and the striped tights are actually women's knee highs from Target.  There are also some bloomers under there.  Emma has many pairs of bloomers because I make her wear them (or bike shorts or leggings) under all of her dresses.

Sorry most these costumes have been so girly.  I will get to some boy costumes soon.  AND please come back next Friday to link up some great costumes ideas at my Halloween Costume linky party.

  1. This is adorable. I can't stand reading most pattens either. I swear half the time they don't make any sense! I much prefer to just figure it out or make it up as I go.

  2. ADORABLE! I just told my sister (Kristin) my girls are going to be Bluberry Muffin and Raspberry with their friend who is Strawberry Shortcake, and she sent me here. You are amazing. I may need some advice on that hat- it is PERFECT!

  3. I love this! I saw this costume and said "I gotta be strawberry shortcake for halloween!" Gosh I love her when I was a kiddo! Can't wait to get started on my costume! Like Karin said any tips on the making it? Hope you come by and link up to my DIY Halloween Party & Tutu Giveaway!
